Much has been discussed about the impacts of the pandemic on digital transformation, and we have witnessed the greatest wave of transformation ever seen. The drastic change in the context forced companies to adapt quickly, with profound implications for their operating models.
The world has changed, and organizations have been forced to take a technological leap for several years, in a few months. It is important to recognize that this rapid digital acceleration and adaptation of organizations was only possible thanks to a flexible, mature, and resilient IT ecosystem. At the same time, this transformation was strongly grounded in cloud infrastructures - and in public clouds -, with a broad, robust and accessible offer.
We are transforming IT at an impressive pace and the transition to a Hybrid IT model is a reality - once again, the flexibility, agility and sophistication of the different cloud solutions are an accelerator.
Cloud Journey
Organizations are focused on ensuring that they get the best out of each clouds type and seek to find the most efficient setting between on prem, public clouds and private clouds. At the same time, they are concerned with ensuring that the decisions they make today regarding the cloud are aligned with the global IT strategy - and this naturally includes a multi-provider strategy with intelligent and integrated lock in management.
On this journey, it is critical to ensure that we do not reinvent the wheel and minimize risk. There is already a lot of investment made in assets that help to define the most appropriate configuration, and what TCO we can expect for each option. The same applies to existing assets for cloud migration processes.
Complexity and heterogeneity are here to stay, and it is essential to ensure that we have a holistic view of our entire IT architecture and infrastructure - automation, integration and end-to-end observability are key requirements to implement to ensure efficient management.
The journey is both complex and compelling. Clearly, we are talking about new paradigms and we must consider in the strategy a very aggressive plan for reconversion and retraining of the IT teams of our organizations - 95% of the success of this journey is training and only 5% is technology.
Hybrid IT challenges
The journey to the cloud, in its different configurations, is full of challenges, with security being one of the most worrisome concerns for CIO’s in our organizations. It is not just about environments being more complex - in hybrid IT architectures with on prem, private clouds and public clouds - it is first, and above all, what we see today in terms of threats:
- The window of opportunity - for attackers - created with the massive migration to teleworking has created an unprecedented wave - never before have so many attacks been suffered.
- The sophistication of criminals with the emergence of attacks using artificial intelligence solutions and machine on machine attacks.
Given this context of greater complexity in terms of the technological ecosystem and the increase in the level of threat, a paradigm shift is required - solutions much more based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning - to try to balance the scales and capacities increasingly used by attackers.
